Dr Ana Vučurović, research associate (MICRODIAG group), has finished training in DNA-based technologies. The training was organized at Dipartimento di Scienze del Suolo della Pianta e degli Alimenti, Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy from 4th October to 13th December 2014, under the supervision of Dr Donato Gallitelli and Dr Roberta Spanò. The aim of the training was to acquire knowledge and skills in testing tolerance/susceptibility of tomato cultivars to plant virus infection through surveying accumulation of genes included in RNA silencing.
Professor Vesna Poleksić and Assistant Professor Božidar Rašković from the AQUACARP group have participated the 2nd SIAD (Sustainable Intensification of pond Aquaculture in the Danube region) workshop of the network. The workshop was held at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany from December 1 to 3, 2014. The SIAD netwotk (http://www.siad-network.eu/) was established in 2014 as a R&D network of institutions in the aquaculture sector of the Danube region.
At the 64th International Trade Fair of Consumer Goods in 2014 which was held from 5 to 8 November 2014 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, the AREA project and the Faculty were presented to the general public.
International Trade Fair of Consumer Goods is the oldest event in the Republic of Macedonia, which has been held since 1951. The emphasis of ITF - AGROFOOD lies in the following business sectors: Agriculture, Animals, Animal Breeding, Veterinary, Tobacco and Smokers' Requisites.
Prof. Predrag Pudja (FOODTECH) visited Teagasc Food Research Center, Moorepark, from November 14-21, 2014. Host of the visit was Prof. Timothy P. Guinee (College of Science, Engineering andFood Science, University College Cork).
Dr Dragana Rančić, Assistant Professor (FUNCROPS group) visited University of Lisbon - Faculty of Sciences, Center of Plant Biotechnology, Department of Botany, Portugal, from 25th to 28th November 2014. The aim of visit was to inform researchers from Institute of Physics and Material Sciences about AREA activity, aiming to increase AREA networking and finding partners for future collaboration. Professors Vesna Poleksić and Zoran Marković from the AQUACARP group have participated the Conference of Central European Aquaculture, held 27-28th November, 2014 in
Budapest, Hungary. The host and conference organizer was Szent István University, Gödöllő, Hungary. Representatives of 10 countries and 15 institutions were present. The conference was held at the AERO IBIS Hotel in Budapest. The memorandum of understanding was signed by all participants.
Dr Vera Raičevic , Professor (MICROBECOL group, ) visited NRC-Nestle Research Center, Lausanne, Switzerland, from 16 to 23 November. The aim of the visit was to disseminate results and expertise of MICROBECOL team, as well as to reinforce the existing and establish new contacts in order to increase potential for future collaboration . WP1 activity, Fact Finding Visit.
Danka Radic (MECROBECOL group), PhD student , completed the training in Raman microscopy. The training took place at the Institute for Physical Chemistry, Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (Germany), from 1th September to 28th November 2014, under the supervision of Dr. Petra Rösch. Aim of the training was to obtain basic knowledge and skills necessary for using Raman microscopy for the characterization of microorganisms, monitoring the effect of heavy metals on the growth of yeasts and classification of different species of yeasts from soils.
JovanaVunduk (FOODBIOTECH group), PhD student and research assistant , completed the training in Raman microscopy. The training took place at the Institute for Physical Chemistry, Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (Germany), from 1th September to 28th November 2014, under the supervision of Dr. Petra Rösch.
Seven AREA teams (PLANTPHYS, FRUITBREED, AQUACARP, PHYTOBAC, MICRODIAG, FOODBIOCEM and FOODTECH) invited experts of EU hosting institutions during the period from 1 to 7 June 2014, when The AREA international conference: “EU project collaborations - challenge for research improvement in agriculture“ was held at the Faculty of Agriculture.
